“Definitely worth it! The training was amazing; the trainers (at Sinbi) were great, really interested in helping you improve your skills, regardless of your level. It was amazing” – Rob Watterton
22 Urban Members (including the whole Walsh Family!) departed for this year’s annual Thailand Trip on August 17th. The trip started out in pure holiday style with an all inclusive flight on Singapore Airlines. After travelling all day, we arrived at our new home for the next two weeks, Rawai, where Sinbi Muaythai Gym is located.
Thailand Views
We spent the first day getting our bearings around town. We travelled up to the Big Buddha where we were blessed by a monk and enjoyed some amazing views of our new surroundings.
Big Buddha
We then checked out the main streets, the shops, and finished the afternoon at the most beautiful beach – Nai Harn, which was only a 5 minute drive from where we were staying.
Not only was the water crystal clear, with incredible views of the land while you swam, the beach also had cafes, Thai massage, and shopping. Chang Beer and Cocktails were had by all as we relaxed into the Thailand Lifestyle.
Night Markets
That evening, we got some amazing street food at the Weekend Walking Street Markets, then headed home to get some shut-eye so we were ready for our first day of training in the morning.
Training stated at 7.30 each morning and 4:00 each evening from Monday to Saturday. The sessions comprised of a half-hour warm up and stretch, 5 rounds on the pads with a Thai trainer, 5 rounds on the bag, and 5 rounds of either sparing, drills, partner work, clinching or the Wai Kru.
Team Training
It was very humid so every session everyone got a great sweat up! Everyone raved about the instructors and training sessions, and especially the new insights they gained into their Muaythai techniques. The majority of our crew discovered they could do far more training than they ever expected!
While we weren’t training or resting, we also had a few other activities booked this year. One day, we took a trip to Promthepe Cape to see an amazing sunset; it was a bit cloudy on the day, so we couldn’t see much, but it was a beautiful spot! After the cape, we then went to a Thai style Buffet where we cooked our own food on a hot pot on our tables.
And on another day, we chartered a 55 Foot Catamaran Boat and went to Racha Islands; the snorkelling was next level with clear visibility, hundreds of fish, and brilliant coral in shades of purple, green, brown and yellow. We were able to kayak, swim and even played on an inflatable slide from the top deck of the boat. It was an amazing day for the team to hang out together and have a bit of fun.
Charter Boat Day
And of course, as per any Thailand experience there were scooter adventures, shopping sprees and a lot of night life had by all.
No one was ready to come home when the trip ended, so we’re all excited for next year’s adventure!
I always like to stick to myself, but actually coming together as a group was a really good experience for me – Tyrone Whelan
